Choose Early Reader (5-7) for a seven-year-old and Middle Grade (8+) from eight. A long story runs to 8-10 scenes. On some paid plans you can also make an interactive story, where your child picks one of two paths and each path has its own ending.

- What makes stories for this age different?
- Fuller plots, characters with their own reasons for what they do, and humour that assumes a bit more. On some paid plans you can also make an interactive story, where your child reaches one choice point, picks one of two paths and gets the ending that goes with it.
- My child prefers screens to books. Does this help?
- Sometimes, because the story is about them. Seeing their own name, and on some paid plans picking which way the story goes, gives a reluctant reader a reason to keep going. Narration, also on some paid plans, highlights each sentence as it is read, so they can follow the words.
- How does the story get personalised?
- You enter your child's name, age group and a few interests, then pick a mood, a length and an illustration style. The story is written around those choices. You can also add custom characters from a photo or a written description, so a sibling, friend or pet can join in.
