New sibling stories

Big feelings are normal when a new baby arrives. A story that puts your child in the older sibling's role can start a gentle conversation.

A personalised story uses your child's name and your family's situation, so it feels like it is about them rather than a lecture. Use the wizard's short note to set the scene, for example 'getting ready for a new baby brother'. For under-fives, choose the Calm & Dreamy or Friendship & Caring mood, a short length and a simple illustration style such as Bright & Simple. Read it at the same point each day, after nursery or before bed, so it becomes part of the routine.

With My Story Wish you choose your child's age group, a mood, a length and an illustration style, plus an optional phonics phase. Every scene gets its own illustration, and the story is ready in a few minutes. You can try a free story with no sign-up form, then subscribe for more each month.

Questions parents ask

How does a story help a child accept a new sibling?
It lets them rehearse the change before it arrives. Seeing themselves in a story as the older sibling, still central, still loved and now with a job to do, gives them a version of events to hold on to when the real thing is noisy and disruptive.
Should I make the story before or after the baby arrives?
Before, ideally, so it prepares them rather than explains after the fact. You could also make one of each: a story during the pregnancy that looks ahead, and a second afterwards that includes the baby by name once they have arrived.
How does the story get personalised?
You enter your child's name, age group and a few interests, then pick a mood, a length and an illustration style. The story is written around those choices. You can also add custom characters from a photo or a written description, so a sibling, friend or pet can join in.
