Phonics mode follows UK Letters and Sounds, US Common Core or the Australian Curriculum, and you choose the phase for each story in the wizard. It aims for nine in ten words to be decodable at that phase. That is a target, not a guarantee. The phase's graphemes and tricky words are highlighted on the page.

With My Story Wish you choose your child's age group, a mood, a length and an illustration style, plus an optional phonics phase. Every scene gets its own illustration, and the story is ready in a few minutes. You can try a free story with no sign-up form, then subscribe for more each month.

Questions parents ask

What is a digraph, and why does Phase 3 introduce them?
A digraph is two letters making one sound, like sh in ship or ch in chat. Phase 3 adds these plus trigraphs such as igh in night. They matter because English cannot be read with single letters alone once past the very simplest words.
How is Phase 3 different from Phase 2 in practice?
The words get longer and less predictable. A child confident with sat and pin may stall on rain or night, because the letters no longer map one to one. Phase 2 words are still decodable at Phase 3, so they keep turning up alongside the new ones.
Which words will my child meet?
Words at this phase include ship, chat, rain, night, feet, look. Phonics mode aims for nine in ten words in a story to be decodable at the phase you choose. That is a target, so expect the odd exception. The phase's graphemes and tricky words are highlighted on the page to help your child spot them.
How does the story get personalised?
You enter your child's name, age group and a few interests, then pick a mood, a length and an illustration style. The story is written around those choices. You can also add custom characters from a photo or a written description, so a sibling, friend or pet can join in.
